nixe, chimaera, muff
Borne through a process rooted in language, this body of work has turned into mythology. Rows and rows of linear bars and data were straining towards their sources – water, hair, fur, and clusters – and my visual cues of things that gather became fully realized symbols via razor-cut whorls and rivers of paper.

Folklore often centers around these primal things, buried deep in our unconscious mind. In an instant, our sources of nourishment, protection, and comfort become terrifying and abject, yet still retain their horrific seduction  and brilliant form.

These works play with the duality of the sublime, simultaneously breathtaking and despairing. They feature characters from our most ancient stories, evoking a collective memory of were-creatures, maidens, and winged beasts; all with whom we have fallen in love and in the end, failed to escape the embrace of  their terrible beauty.
